New PM boss learns lessons: start small and market hard


A rookie principal has established a strong Facebook following and also focused on building his new agency’s rent roll to offset a soft sales market.


Celebrating his company’s first anniversary, Raine & Horne Muswellbrook director Grant Jupe said he’s fulfilling a dream by running his own business despite tough market conditions.


“We’ve had to learn to hit the ground running, market hard and come into a difficult market and get our market share during tough times,” Mr Jupe told RPM.


He said the slow sales market was caused by reduced mining activity near Muswellbrook, which is 180 kilometres north of Sydney.


“We’ve worked on building our rent roll, which has gotten very strong over the past 12 months, so we’ve really put our focus on that while sales have been a bit quieter.”


According to Mr Jupe, the company has run several marketing campaigns at a local level to help establish the brand, particularly within the digital space.


“We actually have the most highly followed and interacted Facebook page of all the agents in town,” he said.


“We’re also using the original method of print media and letterbox dropping, so we try to cover all bases.”


In setting up his own company, Mr Jupe has emphasised the importance of doing adequate research and setting realistic goals.


“We’ve exceeded our goals and expectations in the early months, as it’s always better to aim for a smaller scale when starting a new business,” he said.


“You can then reach those goals and even use those achievements in your marketing, like we did.”


Mr Jupe said setting up a franchise business was the right way for him, since it offered instant brand recognition in the local area.


“I always had my heart set on going with a franchise rather than going independent, because of the support, training and network that comes with a franchise,” he said.


One key thing that helped Mr Jupe in establishing his business is familiarity with the area and the market.


“I’d already been working in real estate in this area, so I had ongoing knowledge as an active agent and I was fairly familiar with the market and the other agents in town.”

Facebook intros new messaging options for businesses


Announced this week, Facebook’s changes are designed to give businesses on Facebook an easier way in which to connect with customers. The changes will enable businesses to better handle customer support issues and answer questions.


The ‘Send Message’ button allows Facebook users to start a private discussion with a business either through their Page or directly through an ad. The button can be implemented by creating a new local awareness ad and selecting the ‘Send Message’ option in the ‘Call to Action’ field.


Facebook has also given businesses a way of responding privately to users who post publicly on their Page. A new ‘Message’ option is available which opens up a private message thread with the customer and also publicly notes that the businesses has responded to the comment.


“Messaging has become a preferred communication channel for people, and now people and businesses on Facebook can start real-time conversations with each other in more ways,” says Facebook on its business blog.


Facebook will also monitor how efficiently businesses respond to user messages. Pages that respond to the vast majority of messages (90%) and have an average response time of less than five minutes will earn the badge “very responsive to messages” which will be added to their Page.

salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM) posted the following to its official blog on Tuesday:


Marketing and visual storytelling have been synonymous from the days of full page ads in newspapers and magazines, to full color billboards and television. In the digital and mobile world, there has never been a channel at scale to rival TV in its ability to powerfully engage consumers with the beauty of the visual image.


That is until Instagram launched in late 2010. Almost overnight, it attracted a large audience eager to use their ever improving smartphone cameras to share what they captured in a channel solely dedicated to visual storytelling. Instagram’s clever filters added to the experience, and passionate communities were born around different interests like fashion, food and travel.



It wasn’t long before innovative marketers recognized this global adoption and brands began setting up a presence on Instagram to take advantage of engagement levels that today include 70 million daily photo uploads and 2.5 billion likes per day. Global brands like L’Oreal, McDonald’s, KLM and Chobani were among the early adopters, utilizing Instagram to engage with customers, convert fans into brand advocates and find new customers.

It’s been about a year since I bought my first affiliate book online for making money and I must say I was completely skeptical but then again you don’t make money unless you make an effort.


Still I can understand why many people are hesitant to join the affiliate program business, don’t get me wrong it’s a great way to make money it’s just that not seeing something tangible is very unpromising to most people. It does take some research, time and perseverance but once all those elements are in place you will make money. Affiliate marketing is a numbers game and one that will treat you very well it you take care of it.


For all those looking to make a quick buck forget it for there are better odds of an illegal inmmigrant becoming President of the United States; but for the rest of you intelligent and discipline minded people this is definitely not out of your reach.


Let me first tell you how I even became involved in affiliate marketing. What first sparked my interest was a program I came across the web called the Rich Jerk which can be found on a review page of 2 other useful internet tools.


Now this guy really got me irate I mean what kind of moron brags about his riches online and how much richer he is than you and to add insult to injury implies that ordering his package won’t make you as pathetic as he thinks you are.


Well needless to say I ordered the package because like many of us I had to try it or at least take a peek at what this bumbling idiot had to say, and I have to admit it was mostly killer and no filler.


Did it make me an affiliate marketing genius? Absolutely not, but it did open my eyes to the possibilities that affiliate marketing has and saved me hundreds of hours on the web which is a key element in the affiliate marketing world and in life in general “time”. Time is the only thing you can’t recuperate so it saved me a whole heck of a lot of time and that’s major if you want to be successful in affiliate marketing for you must leverage your time and energy efficiently to make the most of your efforts. I realized that everything the Rich Jerk had taught me was a great initial step, and one I don’t regret having taken (we all gotta’ start somewhere) but I needed to step my internet game up and so will some of you potential readers at some point.

The information is a great addition to the Rich Jerk package (even though that guys annoying it’s a small compromise for the great information) and what the Ultimate Wealth Package taught me was even more helpful. It is full of helpful resources for the below intermediate level affiliate marketer and helps draw a clearer more complete picture of how the nuts and bolts of affiliate programs works.

The reason why I say it’s not exactly a no-brainer is because to some people that may have added value and to others it may not. In my opinion all it is, is a helpful boost but not the highlight of the product itself.

It’s really that easy the Ultimate Wealth Package and Rich Jerk products will take all the guess work out of how to put together a site that brings in traffic and sells a product you can be proud of. Keep in mind that it’s the overall idea that is important say today you want to promote an online merchant like Amazon or Barnes and Noble and tomorrow you want to sell a product that relates to your field in some way or form. You can become the expert in your niche helping people find the products and services they want.


But don’t limit yourself with one product at a time, you my friend are not loyal to anyone and the moment that your merchants are not rewarding you with the affiliate money you deserve, based on the traffic and sales you generate, then move on to the next. It’s a great way of sticking it to the man, and who knows someday you may become the man, aim high, aim to learn and you too will be rewarded with the benefits of affiliate marketing.


Just remember, similar to the real estate boom there will also be an affiliate program internet boom. Once people catch on to how comprehensible affiliate programs are then a large group of people will begin to do it. But fear not because the internet is limitless and with the thousands of new users every day you’re sure to get a slice of the action, but you have to take the plunge somewhere and learn from the best, don’t re-invent the wheel when it’s rolling just fine. Affiliate marketing drives Web traffic and sales through performance-based rewards, but a new study suggests the industry might be long overdue for an overhaul. Some 52% of U.S. affiliate marketers say it takes longer for them to get paid these days, down to 41.3% elsewhere in the world.


Key insights from Tipalti’s study show the need for an overhaul of platforms and better communication skills as well as improved best practices and business models. The report shares findings and insights from the more than 250 people responding to the questionnaire.


Late payments and not getting paid at all — along with other issues — continue to force affiliate marketers to drop out of network programs. In fact 34.8% of non-U.S. affiliates have had a situation where they did not receive payment compared with 13% of U.S. affiliates. Complex problems like tax ID information can become confusing when the site offers global programs.


Forrester Research expects the affiliate marketing industry to reach a 17% compounded annual growth rate to $4.5 billion in 2016. The statistic from the most recent report published in 2012.


One feature that affiliate marketers want but do not have, as identified in the study, is the ability to verify payment status, complete with automatic notifications when payment issues arise. While U.S.-based affiliates prefer PayPal and ACH systems, global affiliates prefer PayPal and wire transfers and show a greater willingness to pay for transfer fees. Non-U.S. affiliates also made Echeck their third preference, showing the need for a more cost-effective, reliable transfer network.


Nearly 48% of the affiliate marketers participating in the survey say they are “somewhat satisfied” with the payment experience; followed by 32.4%, very satisfied; 16.4%, needs improvement; and 3.2%, needs improvement.


Nearly 41% of affiliate marketers admit to stop working with a network because of a payment issue. Of those who did not already end a relationship with an affiliate network, 65% say they would stop working with a network because of consistent payment problems. If an affiliate network has payment issues, they are more likely to lose affiliates.
