Signed New Affiliate Manager

Dear New Affiliate Manager,

Oh, don’t even get me started on this one! I love this topic.

If you’re new to the concept of article marketing, you can write articles and share them with websites, blogs and newsletters. These publishers are hungry for content and will gladly publish your informative articles on their sites. Every time they do, your author bio, including your website URL and information about your website, is included at the bottom. (See the bottom of this article to see how it works.)

What does this have to do with your affiliate program? Well, it can help you in two ways.

First of all, you can write articles and submit them to the article directories (which are basically libraries of free articles). Then when your articles are published, you’ll get traffic and a portion of those visitors will buy your products and a portion will sign up for your affiliate program (both of which will help your business grow.)

Secondly, you can allow your affiliates to use these articles on their websites with one special alteration. ENCOURAGE them to replace your URL with their link from your affiliate program. The article becomes monetized so the publisher can make money simply by sharing it (and you will, too.) Do you think your articles will be spread like wildfire by enthusiastic affiliates? Oh yes, much faster than you could spread the word alone.

Think about it. The viral aspect of this type of marketing can grow your affiliate program exponentially. All it takes is some research, a little time and some hard work. The benefits? Priceless.

Citing the state’s “click-through” advertising law, Amazon emailed Vermont participants in its Amazon Associates program that their accounts would be closed,  Tax-News.com reported Friday. Passed in 2011 to put pressure on Congress to pass federal legislation that would require online retailers to collect sales taxes, the Vermont law won’t take effect until the state attorney general’s office determines that one-third of states with sales tax have adopted similar laws.

man-orders-tv-from-amazon-receives-rifle-instead-ddbcfe1b00But Amazon chose not to wait. Its affiliate marketing program operating agreement now includes Vermont, according to the article. “If at any time following your enrollment in the program, you become a resident of Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Missouri, Rhode Island or Vermont, you will become ineligible to participate in the program, and this operating agreement will automatically terminate, on the date you establish residency in that state,” the website reported.

Courts have determined that online retailers that don’t have physical locations in states do not have to collect sales taxes there, Tax News  reported. As a result, many states have been enacting online sales tax laws, in part to spur Congress to pass legislation such as the Marketplace Fairness Act, which would require all online retailers with more than $1 million in annual sales to collect sales tax for state and local governments, even if they don’t have brick-and-mortar stores in those locations.

While Amazon has responded to those states that have passed online tax laws by banning participation in its affiliate marketing program in those states, it does agree to collect tax revenue in states where it is building new warehouses, according to Tax News.com.

The year ahead

Affiliate Window’s Kevin Edwards put things in motion this week with a top-ten list of trends expected in the affiliate marketing sector, pointing at how the role of networks could change, and how the UK could start to see some significant opportunities arising from overseas.

The key theme for digital advertising in 2015 will be programmatic video, according to the CEO of StickyADs.tv, Hervé Brunet, with the volume of online video advertising purchased via real-time bidding expected to grow by 92% in 2015.

However, with global digital ad spend predicted by emarketer to top $630 billion by 2016, there are myriad ways marketers are predicted to utilise their budgets. Adtruth MD EMEA James Collier predicts increased competition, acquisition, and consolidation, as well as a renewed focus on advanced audience identification in his feature on the 2015 ad tech landscape. Meanwhile, some conflicting views arose from Visual IQ’s Adit Abhyankar and his alternative predictions.

The results also proved that December was a key month for winter websites looking to amp up their search budgets.

Facebook Threatening YouTube as Premiere Video Platform for Marketers

January 9, 2015: facebook video marketingThe push by Facebook to include video on its News Feed and posted by pages and personal users has led many to believe it will soon overtake YouTube as the primary tool used for online video marketing efforts.

According to MarketingLand, in the last year, video posts on the social network have increased 75% globally and 94% in the U.S., while the amount of video appearing in News Feeds has increased 360%. These stats are based on a public media blog post from Facebook.

This trend toward the growing importance of video is nothing new. In November 2014, a study found that it was one of the top three marketing techniques for B2B marketers. The study also found that even though it was reported as the third most effective marketing tactic (tied with blogging), it was actually sixth in terms of actual usage, meaning that many marketers are not taking advantage of video marketing effectiveness.

A second report from Facebook, this time from its Newsroom section, reports that since June 2014, Facebook has averaged about 1 billion video views per day. While there are some critics that claim view counts might be inflated due to the fact that many users experience video auto-play after mousing over a video in their newsfeed, the fact remains that the exposure video is getting on Facebook will only continue to increase.

If this indeed is the case, marketers are likely to start facilitating a plan for video creation for Facebook in 2015.

Why Visa opted for social videos over new year

Visa’s Facebook video campaign featuring Korean actress Park Shin-hye unveiled for Christmas and the new year is approaching an end next week.

The credit card giant’s decision to use video on social media platforms as a core medium for its mass marketing campaign is part of a growing trend.

According to statistics released by Facebook yesterday, videos uploaded by users and brands showed up in the News Feed 3.6 times more last year compared to 2013.  On a global scale, the number of video posts per person went up by 75%.

Tom Tobin, country manager at Visa Hong Kong and Macau, said Visa’s Facebook video campaign focused on eCommerce.

“The campaign addresses consumers’ feelings of unease during online shopping where many hesitate when making purchases.  In the video, with just a few clicks, Shin-Hye has bought an evening gown for her red carpet event,” Tobin said.

“The video helps make a memorable and human connection with viewers,” Tobin said.

Complementing the Facebook video are video ads and display banners placed on online portals such as YouTube, Yahoo, Apple Daily and myTV.

Tobin added that Park was chosen as the brand’s ambassador in the campaign because she appeals to online shoppers in Asia and has a broad social media fan base.

A series of Facebook posts sharing tips about online shopping and security were also part of the campaign.

“This approach encourages customers to actively share the information in the posts with their friends,” Tobin said.

Jayne Leung, head of Greater China at Facebook believes the prevalence of videos on social media platforms marks the beginning of a larger shift in marketing towards personalisation on a mass scale.

“Business used to be personal. Then, we developed mass media, which was wonderful for scaling brands but this also made brands less personal,” she said.

“Digital and mobile give us the opportunity to make marketing more relevant and rewarding for people because we understand so much more about them.”

Most Effective way to Manage our Affiliate Program

Most Effective way to Manage our Affiliate Program

Affiliate Marketing

How Affiliate marketing work

An affiliate program stands for increase traffic and sales through a large diversity of traffic sources. Affiliate marketing has been around for over 10 years and really only started as a way of compensating business related traffic sent through different types of websites. It has evolved steadily with various affiliate networks and crawled platforms on a wide channel in the retail industry.

So what should you do as a merchant or advertiser looking to get into affiliate marketing? First, you need to launch a major network so you can access an existing affiliate marketing database and web publishers.

Here I Share some significant concepts and strategies to increase and run a winning affiliate program:

Recruiting Affiliates – This is a major question mark in terms of methodology and efficiency. Recruiting affiliates is really easy if you know how. You must do a lot of pro-active directions, contact the Web sites, and contact with known members, making it very tastefully and offers an advantage to work with your company, otherwise it just becomes the one of thousands of companies competing for your time, that’s why it is important to differentiate itself from its competitors by highlighting the benefits for affiliate marketers. Another way to recruit members is advertised Search. You can advertise on Google and Bing / Yahoo on the keywords “affiliate program”. You can also advertise on forums and in places where frequent affiliates recruit affiliates or your affiliate registration page, or directly to an affiliate of its registration page. You can advertise on Facebook for those interested in affiliate marketing. Exposing your website customers for your affiliate program can also be an effective strategy to push referral partners, but often recommend a referral program to the right customer for this purpose.

Affiliate Payout Levels – affiliate payment levels have got to be watched frequently, you should seek to pay as much as you can to the right types of affiliates to profit for your affiliate / publishers. You should also look to throw in some sort of incentives and say, “if you make 50 sales this month or even 10 sales this month, we’ll give you a $ 100 bonus,” or we will give you an iPad or an iPod or Pay now. pay as much as you can first, and then you can book a couple of percentage points for those who can produce serious amounts of volume. There are many different types of members, so be sure to pay according to the value they deliver for your business. For example, many companies appreciate subsidiaries that generate new customers through regular customer production. Some important members companies that have websites and relevant blogs, unlike many coupon sites. But you can never bring all members of a given type, all must be evaluated and measured individually.

Managing Affiliates – This is one of my favorite quotes: “The administration is” If the launch of an affiliate program or performance marketing channel and has no intensive management of competent members behind him. most likely will not gain ground, unless you’re a large Fortune 500 retailer that has never done before affiliate marketing then you could grow their own subsidiaries coupons. But if not, a lot of raves about and lots of love to grow properly you need. you have very proactive affiliate management rather than both grow and manage our top affiliates. Whomever handles your affiliate management, or is working with your affiliate partners, needs to follow a very detailed strategy and take it extremely seriously.

Do not be cheap with its affiliates and partners – this is one of the biggest mistakes companies make. They simply do not have outweigh the members pretty well and I kind of look like another marketing channel and say, “I really do not need much because payment is only my affiliate program … I do not know what to do. “Bad attitude! you should really see it as a real sales force for your company, its” feet on the street “as he was online and you need to do is very lucrative for those who work with you and send traffic.

Affiliate and Partner Management – personalization works best when managing affiliate marketers. Typically, personalized affiliate management always works better than a mass approach, but you have to have experienced people in order leverage personalized affiliate management properly. Most companies and agencies use a mass approach and aren’t helpful or friendly enough to their affiliates, which doesn’t build the relationship properly. Make sure to have proactive, friendly affiliate managers in place to work with your affiliates, or it won’t come close to reaching your expectations. Affiliate newsletters are also really important, as they are the primary method of communicating with your affiliates, however most companies fail miserably at this task. A really good agency (like mine) sends gorgeous looking affiliate newsletters that are highly engaging and friendly, with a great subject line (another aspect that affiliate managers do poorly in general).

Affiliate Network Choice – This is a common problem in the performance marketing because the more you spread your offer or your advertiser account several networks, most management must be to another. You should also make sure that the order is not accredited to more than one network source. So really, you can have problems when they branch out a little wider with additional networks. I recommend usually maximize network and then possibly try a couple of other people when you want to add more volume if additional partners can be collected. Or launching an internal program and recruit directly to your in-house program via the contact website and advertising research and Facebook to build subsidiaries there.

Spending money on your affiliate channel – most companies are very cheap when it comes to investing in their affiliate channel. First, they do not know how to effectively spend the money to develop the channel or have tried in the past and failed miserably.

There are several ways you can spend money to grow your affiliate channel, including: hiring a competent, paid emails recruitment by affiliate networks, advertising on Google and Bing / Yahoo , advertising on Facebook, the forums affiliate advertising, and conduct exploration site. These are all ways to spend money to grow your affiliate channel and can be measured very effectively, you just have to know how. Another very effective way to meet the affiliate is to participate in the Affiliate Summit, which is the main affiliate marketing conference in the world. They make shows in New York and Las Vegas each year, be sure to check it is a great learning experience and networking.

Will Facebook Marketing Reach Saturation Point?

Will Facebook Marketing Reach Saturation Point? image facebook 1237.jpg7

We used to see that, by using a daily Facebook advertising budget of USD 50, we can reach a targeted audience of at least 50,000 consumers through paid reach. (That was in early 2013).

Well, this may not be the case anymore.

Why That Happened

This phenomenon happened due to the change Facebook made that forces many companies to advertise for more audience reach when they reduced the organic reach that each company can achieve.

Recommended for YouWebcast: The Art of Growth Hacking: Gaining Early Traction by Doing Things that Don’t Scale

What it simply means is that if you have 100,000 facebook page likes today, each time your brand posts something on Facebook, perhaps only 6000 people or less will see that posts. According to an article in TIME magazine, a recent study found that companies’ consumers organic reach had dropped from 12% in October 2013 to merely 6% in February 2014. It also stated that it may further drop to 1 to 2% in the future. And that was an article in March 2014. So what now – 2015?

Will Facebook Marketing Reach Saturation Point? image now we can panic7.jpg7

Oversupply to Saturation Point

By adding sugar consistently to your hot cuppa coffee, it may reach a point whereby the sugar no longer dissolves in the coffee. This is what we called the “the saturation point”. Last year onward, more and more companies started to switch to Facebook advertising in order to reach out to their followers as well as new prospects. Will it mean that Facebook advertising is reaching its saturation point soon?

Will Facebook Marketing Reach Saturation Point? image too much sugar.jpg

The saturation point may mean that all your competitors are doing the same thing as you targeting to the same group of consumers using Facebook adverting. Will the saturation point also mean that paid reach has to be significantly reduced as well in order to accommodate such increase in the number advertisers. Well, I leave this for you to judge and decide.

Maybe It’s Time to Change Plans or Be more Creative?

When everyone is advertising to the same group of audience on Facebook it may result in information overload or what some experts called the “Facebook Fatigue”. Ads or sponsored posts that are not interesting or engaging enough would be chucked aside and ignored by the consumers.

Will Facebook Marketing Reach Saturation Point? image i cant hear you.jpg

Since we know that paid reach may have decreased, we have to really think of the box when we advertised on Facebook. Especially when we are just small medium companies with small medium sized advertising budgets.

Here are 3 ideas to help you increase your ad reach on Facebook, other than the usual “pay more monies” strategy.

1. Make it Attention Grabbing

Do something that make your brand looks different from your competitors. Whether you have a attention grabbing ad title or a cool unique picture; something that will make people click, like and share what you have installed for them.

2. Change Ad on a Daily Basis

People attention level are low due to the overflow of information on Facebook. Your consumers will not likely click on that same Facebook advertisement again if you continue to show them the same advertisement consistently. Change your ad daily so that there is always something new for them to check it out.

3. Increase Social Media Retention

To make full use of your advertisement money on Facebook, you may need to find ways to increase social media retention. Hence, other than letting people like your page or posts, you can also lead some of them to your web content, where they can further share your content via other social networks like Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest or others.

Like it or not, to survive in this competitive game on Facebook advertising, you have to be more creative now if marketing money is an issue to you. Or perhaps, it is time to switch to other marketing strategies which are less saturated but as effective as Facebook?

Content Marketing and Branding on Facebook Has to Be Done Concurrently

Will Facebook Marketing Reach Saturation Point? image traditional marketing talks at people17.jpg7

If a new startup begins to advertise on Facebook, it may or may not see an immediate increase in terms of sales revenue or customers. This is because people need time to be familiarised with your brand. That is why it is important for your brand, to be consistently present where your potential customers are for at least 3 to 6 months. Just make sure you have the resources to maintain your brand presence to your targeted audience via Facebook advertising.

Consumers today feel better to buy from a brand they know rather than a company which they are not sure of. Hence, coupled to being consistently present on Facebook, your brand may also need to produce more customer related content for your consumers. In this way, your company will be seen as the thought leader in your industry, in which adds consumer confidence in your products and services thereafter.

In my objective point of view, it takes two hands to clap. Well, it is easy for some to say that Facebook had reduced organic post reach drastically in order to make more companies advertise with them. And that results in too many advertisers targeting the same consumer audience at the same time. I think it is also paramount for us now to be more creative in our Facebook ad content so as to get more from our advertising dollar.

At the time of this writing, I am also looking for alternative platforms to help my business clients to reach out to more customers, since we already know that once things become too saturated, we have to change our plans. Though it may be too early for us to conclude that the oversaturation of advertisers may make the platform less effective in the future, it’ll be good to look for other alternatives as well. So, I’ll leave that for you to decide, cheers!

Will Facebook Marketing Reach Saturation Point?

10 Consumer Trends and Implications for Marketing Practice in 2015

As a marketing professor and therefore an active researcher, I pay close attention to changes in consumption and how these changes might impact marketing strategy. Below, I outline ten observations related to consumer trends and offer questions for you to contemplate as you fine-tune your marketing strategies for 2015.

1. Rent vs. Buy: “I use not own… and I share and experience.”

We have seen a number of interesting iterations with respect to ownership and consumption. First, Zipcar, Kindle and iTunes moved consumers away from the need to physically own cars, books and music while still satisfying the same underlying needs. Then organizations such as Airbnb and Uber appeared and encouraged people to share excess capacity with other consumers. Some Airbnb members took this a step further and added an experience element by hosting dinner parties with guests.

How does the sharing economy impact your organization and its brands?

2. The Blurring of Gender Roles: “We are partners, paid employees and parents.”

Women are starting to out learn and out earn men; more men want to spend more time with their children (and it often makes economic sense for them to stay home or take on primary responsibility for childcare). This has led to a blurring of traditional gender roles (see my recent post for a fuller discussion on this)..

Does your organization stereotype based on gender? Does your organization understand the role of women and men as influencers, buyers and users of your products or services?

3. The Rise of Swirlers: “I don’t move through traditional life stages anymore.”

Traditional life stages no longer apply nor do consumers necessarily move through life stages in a linear fashion. For example: students graduate from college with a lot of debt and can’t afford to buy homes; people delay getting married and having children; people remarry and new households form that blend families and add more children; people 65+ are still active and are not ready to retire; many people 65+ still have mortgages and can’t afford to retire; etc.

Does your organization still assume that life stages are a strong predictor of consumption patterns? Does your organization truly understand the demographics of your customer base and how this drives consumption?

4. Who Am I? “You should know me by now.”

Consumers know that a lot of data is collected on them, and many consumers have experienced, or are aware of, recent data breaches (e.g., Target and Home Depot). Good or bad, consumers now expect organizations to have abundant data on them, to “know them” and to recognize and acknowledge the value of their relationship with the organization.

How well do you know your customers? Do you acknowledge and value customer loyalty?

5. The Jekyll and Hyde Phenomenon: “I can take on different personalities.”

Many consumers post comments online and, if they adopt pseudonyms, organizations might not be able to identify them (e.g., by gender, age, ethnicity, etc.). In addition, consumers might assume an alter ego and, for example, consumers might appear quite aggressive toward your brand when in fact they are not.

What consumer data does your organization collect? What decisions do you make with this data? How accurate does this data need to be?

6. Take a Look at This: “I share a lot about myself.”

Consumers like to share stories about themselves and now they also share a lot of images as well. For example:
46% of adult Internet users post photos or videos online that they have created. 41% take photos or videos online and share them.
• 17% of online users use Instagram. 21% of online users use Pinterest.
Snapchat has 100 million active users, of which 70% are women and 71% are under 25. Snapchat users send 400 million Snapchats a day,

Do you give your customers stories to share… and stories that contain photos and videos?

7. The Human Polygraph: “I’m good at detecting lies and sifting through information.”

Consumers are adept at doing research online, sifting through and filtering the information they find, and figuring out what information to trust, and from whom.

When you provide information do you tell consumers where the information is coming from – e.g., from your organization vs. an outside source and if an outside source, which source?

8. Connectivity: “I’m mobile and connected… anywhere, anytime.”

90% of adults have a cell phone; 58% have a smartphone; 42% own a tablet computer.
• 67% of cell owners check their phone for messages, alerts, or calls — even when they don’t notice their phone ringing or vibrating.
• 44% of cell owners sleep with their phone next to their bed because they want to make sure they don’t miss any calls, text messages or other updates during the night.
• 29% of cell owners describe their cell phone as “something they can’t imagine living without.”

Consumers use mobile technology when out shopping. Consumers also expect to be able to communicate with a person within an organization directly, and to have a response straight away.

How responsive is your organization to customer feedback? Does your organization have a mobile strategy?

9. The Suspicious Skeptic: “I don’t trust you or respect you.”

There were once boundaries between organizations and consumers – each had clear expectations as to the others’ role. Furthermore, organizations controlled messages to consumers and told consumers what they needed to buy. Now consumers do not mind competing with organizations (e.g., Airbnb competing with hotels) and consumers’ trust of organizations and brands has eroded. Many factors contribute to this – for example: the recession, organizations relocating headquarters to minimize taxes, the sharing economy and consumer-generated media.

Do your customers trust your brand? Are you open with your customers? Do you take care of problems they have with your organization? Do they trust you?

10. The Uneven Partnership: “I will co-create my own value with you.”

Organizations used to do more for consumers. Now organizations push consumers away. For example, consumers put their own gas in cars, do their own banking online or with remote data capture, book their own travel, check themselves in on planes, bring their own food onto planes, etc. As a consequence, consumers are getting used to co-creating their own experience.

How can your customers co-create value with you so that you both benefit?
What can you do to help customers personalize their experiences — e.g., Amazon and Netflix personalize recommendations for consumers.

Concluding Thoughts: The ten insights above are simply my observations and reflections based on what I see; others might offer different insights. I do however recommend you identify the three insights from the list above that will likely have the most impact on your organization and then determine what your organization’s strategic responses should be.

MakeMyTrip: Market Expansion To Drive Earnings Growth (MMYT)

Summary

  • MakeMyTrip delivered revenue growth of 32% during the latest quarter. Losses narrowed significantly.

  • India’s e-commerce industry is poised to grow at a double-digit rate this year, which will prove to bring more customers to the company’s website.

  • Business-friendly government is pushing aviation industry ahead.

  • The company is expected to deliver a profit in 2016.

MakeMyTrip’s (NASDAQ:MMYT) share value has gone up by 33% in a year. The company operates a traveling website through which customers can research, plan and book travel services and products in India as well as overseas. MakeMyTrip has been a top performer in the industry since a long time: the company’s revenue growth has averaged 27% over the past three years, while the industry has seen its revenue grow at a far lesser rate of 9.1%. With the macro environment proving favorable for the company, this trend is expected to sustain ahead.

In this article, I will evaluate MakeMyTrip’s financial strength by reviewing its performance in the latest quarter. Later, I will discuss factors to highlight the future potential of the organization.

Second Quarter

During the period, MakeMyTrip achieved top-line growth of 35% on a constant-currency basis. The $32 million revenue figure was achieved on the back of strong performance across all the core business segments. Of particular importance was the performance of the company’s strategically important hotels and holiday packages “H&P” business: acquisition of easytobook.com and an increase in relationship contracts with suppliers helped MakeMyTrip grow its H&P’s transactions by over 70% during the quarter, and the company registered approximately 75% growth in revenues less service costs on a constant-currency basis.

In addition, MakeMyTrip investment in targeted marketing and lower prices helped it improve the mix of non-air revenue during the seasonally-low quarter to 43% versus 35% in the same quarter of last year. The improving business mix demonstrated that MakeMyTrip was capable of outpacing and differentiating itself from competitors in a fast-growing market.

Even though the top line remained strong, the company’s excess expenditure to achieve higher penetration led it to deliver an adjusted loss of $0.4 million. However, the loss was significantly lower than the $1.5 million MakeMyTrip reported in 2013. Looking forward, the company is expected to deliver a profit due to the reasons discussed below.

Market Growth

At first, let’s talk about the e-commerce market in India, since growth in this market directly affects the magnitude of customers that visit MakeMyTrip’s website. Fortunately, the e-commerce industry in India is changing fast. The market is expected to grow by 70% this year and is likely to cross $6 billion in revenues. The growth alone will make India one of the fastest-growing e-commerce markets in the Asia-Pacific region.

The expansion will be aided by the fact that more than 30% of traffic on e-commerce platforms is now coming from mobile phones and tablets. There is increasing traction in mobile shopping as marketplaces, consumer-goods companies, and food and beverage companies have started investing in mobile commerce.

Also, with the introduction of the first Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT)-branded phone after the acquisition of Nokia (NYSE:NOK), the market for cheap-end phones has expanded recently. The reasons are why bookings from mobile now account for over 16% of total online transactions of MakeMyTrip. They also explain why mobile users contribute nearly 34% of the total online domestic-hotel transactions to the company.

To leverage from this growth, MMY recently launched a nationwide TV campaign that focused viewers’ attention on the company’s mobile offering. The campaign has been successful as approximately 31% of the increase in downloads during the latest quarter came due to the commercial.

MakeMyTrip has also enhanced the overall performance of its app by reducing the app download size and bringing new mobile payment-security facilities offered by financial institutions within India. As a latest move, the company recently introduced vernacular content on its mobile app and mobile web, and will continue to expand the content nationwide this year. The vernacular content will allow MakeMyTrip to reach customers beyond the larger cities, where many potential users prefer an Indian dialect to research and shop. Together, these moves will help MakeMyTrip increase its market share in the mobile arena when the overall market is growing.

Secondly, MakeMyTrip will also gain through the aviation industry which is forecast to grow by 6.9% over the next five years. The aviation market is poised to benefit from the recent entry of Air-Asia and license issuance to Tata Airlines, thanks to the new business-friendly government’s plan to liberalize several markets. Also, the ongoing price war among airlines in India will prove to be another catalyst for online-travel companies ahead.

Bottom Line

The losses MakeMyTrip has been delivering are a product of investments that the company has made to position it well in the market. The analysts believe that these investments will finally turn fruitful in the upcoming year and MakeMyTrip will deliver a profit of 27 cents per share. The estimate has further led 10 brokers to value the company’s stock at $33.7 per share, which reveals that MakeMyTrip is undervalued by 24%. Therefore, the company holds a buy rating.

Behind the career: Dev Ganesan, Fishbowl's new president and chief executive officer

By ,

Dev Ganesan

Position: President and chief executive, Fishbowl, an Alexandria company that helps restaurants with marketing.

Dev Ganesan began his career working for consulting giants KMPG and Deloitte. After leaving the consulting world, he specialized in helping companies grow. He was chief executive of Trados, Intelliworks and Aptara before joining Fishbowl late last year.

How did you benefit from working at large consulting firms early in your career?

I always recommend to youngsters to work for a large company as soon as they come out of college before they jump into a start-up. I am a strong believer in that you need to go and work with some of the very large companies where you are trained well in systems and processes, and get trained to different ideas. I benefited from that quite a bit.

What do you like about working with companies that are in the process of transforming themselves?

I like the pace. I always call myself a wartime general. I’m not a peacetime general. I like that intensity where you transform parts of the business, put it in that growth stage and eventually create value for stakeholders. I love that piece. It energizes me to run fast. I love fast. That also fits nicely with my personality.

What appealed to you about the CEO position at Fishbowl?

There’s a shift going on from [advertisers] spending on traditional media to spending more on digital. And once it goes into digital, it’s all about getting to know the customers, engaging with the customers.

Ultimately, the restaurants want to drive in more revenue, more guests, and you can do that by engaging with the customers. But you can engage with them only if you know more about them. That’s exactly what we do. Today, we are providing analytics so that restaurants can get to know more about their customers, where you are going, how much you are spending, and then how to make you come in more regularly and spend more money. It’s all about data-driven marketing, and that’s why I found this job to be extremely exciting.

What do you hope to achieve in your new role?

The company has been an e-mail marketing company, but the beauty is they have a very large base of restaurants that trust them. The reason I’m here is to take them to the next step of basically doing a more data-driven marketing with a solid analytical platform.

Before you took the job, you took 18 months off to travel, but you also studied up on analytics. What did you learn?

I discovered that big data analytics is for real. A lot of people are saying it’s all a buzzword. More and more, it’s all about data. If I have a lot of data, I can see some patterns in the data. It’s all about patterns. Then I can start making decisions based on the patterns I am seeing. The larger the data sets, the more confident you will be in the intelligence you are getting from the data.

Can’t data be overwhelming?

I think that’s where a good analytical platform comes into play. You can’t do it manually. You need to give them data so that they can take action. I call it actionable insight. We are the action engine, and that’s where I am so excited about Fishbowl.

Fishbowl has already developed an action engine, which is e-mail and customer engagement. I want to help the chief marketing officers in the restaurant business run good campaigns, measure the efficacy of the campaign and give them more intelligence around the guests.

This is where many restaurants are going wrong, which is they think “I can do a loyalty program and I’m done.” But loyalty programs are easy because that’s an end. Once you’re already loyal, I know you’re coming. But how can I get others who are not loyal members to make them loyal? That’s exactly what we are striving to do.

What’s the most challenging part of growing a company?

The common theme is it’s not technology, it’s about people. If you have the right team and people around you and you get them to share the vision, then you can basically go and execute on anything. Bringing in the right team and making sure they fit well is a challenge. When you look at a successful company, it’s the team that made it.

What is the best advice you’ve received in your career?

The best advice is humility because the moment I walk up to somebody and say, “I’ve done three companies. It’s easy,” you fail. It’s not about you. It’s about trying to find a solution. Things change a lot. I feel like the advice I got early in life about having a good level of humility as a leader is very critical and has gone a long way.

Are You Using This Internet Marketing Secret?

Summary:

If you are trying to sell a product or service on the Internet, then you are probably doing so through an affiliate program. But as you may know only a few really make a decent living from it…

This article from The Online Master is about: internet marketing, affiliate program, secret, online business, advertising, affiliate promotion, home business

If you are trying to sell a product or service on the Internet, then you are probably doing so through an affiliate program. You signed up as an affiliate (usually for free) and they gave you an affiliate ID (user name or number). They may have even given you a basic marketing package which includes text ads, banner ads, and solo ads with a link to your affiliate sales page. All you have to do is use these tools to get traffic to your affiliate sales page.

Well that sounds pretty easy, doesn’t it? This process actually works too, except that your probability of converting your traffic into sales is very, very, very low.In other words, you may have to have thousands of people to visit your affiliate sales page before you ever see your first sell. Now those aren’t very good odds, are they?

Unfortunately, that is what most people do. They spend a lot of time, effort, and money getting all of those people to that affiliate sales page and then they finally make a sale and earn a referral fee or commission. But wait, it can get even worse. Let’s say that you made one sale and earned a $10 commission.

That’s great, right? Well not really, because in the terms and conditions of your affiliate program, you don’t actually get paid until you have accumulated at least $20 of commissions. So get back to it and get another sale and finally get paid. Good grief!

Don’t quit! Internet marketing is a great way to make extra money, but you have to know some of the secrets. Here’s one. “Don’t advertise your affiliate program directly.” You must use a four step process instead.

Four Step Process

1. First, you must provide something of value. The easiest valuable thing that you can give away is information. An informative email course, special report, or ebook are all great ways to give away free information.

2. This step goes along with the initial step above. Don’t give away your free information until you get an email address. You must capture the name and email address of your prospective sale in order to be able to implement the next step.

3. If the information that you are providing is good and helps people, then you will earn some trust. If someone gives you some information that saves you time, money, or effort; then you are going to closely read anything that they send you – as long as the information is still valuable. This is why it is so important that you get that name and email address before you start giving away your information. Now you can keep the information flowing through an occasional email to your prospect.

4. Finally, if you have been providing valuable information and earning trust from people, it is much more likely that they will buy something that you recommend. This is especially true if you can convince them that what you are recommending will help them and that it is worth their money.

The easiest way to do this is to recommend something that you have actually purchased and use yourself. Just tell them how it helped you and why you think that it was worth what you paid for it!
