Online sales initiatives

The sudden movement in the company’s stock remains unexplained in the absence of any update or information available from the company’s end. The company’s announcement added up to its efforts of pursuing online marketing initiatives to boost its online sales.

The company is believed to have witnessed positive growth on a yearly basis as a result of undertaking the new initiatives. The company’s second-quarter reports underscored a jump in online sales by 49% year-over-year. The company had stated that its intention to test ads on Facebook is driven by the objective of becoming a part of the social environment, where goals and targets will be measured by network capabilities.

Impressive growth trajectory

Vitamin Blue Inc (OTCMKTS:VTMB)’s CEO Frank Omelas viewed Facebook as an optimal platform given its unique data on the users that will help the company to adopt creative ways and reach out to the new customers. He added that by including Facebook among the company’s marketing mix is the best strategy they could have employed. Having said that Omelas expressed his eagerness to see the positivity reflecting in their earnings.

It is to be noted that the company’s presence on eBay and Amazon boosted its sales by 97% and 83% respectively. After expanding its marketing efforts to Facebook, the company is said to be eyeing Jet.com in the third-quarter. Overall, the results are evidencing that the company is just moving in the right direction.

Facebook Is Finally Changing Their Username Policy Following Waves Of Criticism

Facebook

Getty Image

First it started with drag queens — Facebook began eliminating the accounts of female impersonators who weren’t using their legal names in their profiles. The policy quickly spread to target transgender users and Native Americans, all who may go by names other than those listed on their birth certificate. The enforcement of this “real name” policy has always confused me, as not only is my personal Facebook account under an assumed name (I’ve had problems with stalkers), but I have several accounts that I use just to play Facebook games that are all clearly made up names.

So obviously not all Facebook users are going by their given name, not only to avoid domestic abusers and predators, but because their religious order or culture gives them new names later in life. This led to protests over the summer, on behalf of everyone who doesn’t use their legal name on their Facebook profile:

Facebook claims it isn’t a “legal name” policy — officially it’s the “authentic identity” policy — they only ask that you can verify the name you use is the one people identify you as in real life. Then what’s the deal with people who genuinely use their stage name in public being deleted from the network?

An open letter to Facebook criticizing the policy was written by the Electronic Frontier Foundation — and signed by some 80 international groups including the ACLU — was penned at the beginning of the month. It appears Facebook has listened. In response, Alex Schultz, an openly gay VP for marketing at Facebook, claims that testing is ready to begin on a new identity verification process that should help eliminate trolls rather than legitimate users:

We are deeply invested in making this better. I’ve seen first hand how people — including LGBT people — can be bullied online by people using fake or impersonating accounts. At the same time, I’ve walked with our head of Community Operations at Pride in San Francisco, and heard the feedback from the LGBT and other communities that our policy and tools aren’t enabling people to be their authentic selves on Facebook. We also understand the challenges for many transgender people when it comes to formally changing one’s name. That’s why we’re making changes now and in the future, and will continue to engage with you and all who are committed to looking after the most vulnerable people using our product.

The “report a user” function is being blamed on many of the deleted accounts. The solution seems to be making the tattletale feature so annoying to use, trolls won’t bother. (That hasn’t been my experience, but perhaps other people have less dedicated stalkers.)

Based on feedback from our community, we are building a new version of the profile reporting process that requires people to provide additional information about why they are reporting a profile. This will help our teams better understand why someone is reporting a profile, giving them more information about the specific situation.

The other change Facebook will be instituting is a better way to authenticate users who have been locked out of their accounts. A more robust system for verifying ID is in the works, and the company claims that everyone who has been mistakenly flagged has a “real live person” helping them at the other end.

These changes to policy are not the end of the name policy, however. Schultz insists that reporting users with possible fake names is a way to police against abuse. Insisting people have their “real” name — the identity that their friends, family, and co-workers use for them — on their profile is the only way to “hold people accountable” for the sh*tty things they say online. (Again, I haven’t found this to be the case, but perhaps Facebook is building themselves a utopia where no one has political opinions.)

The new “authentic identity” policy should start rolling out in December.

Here"s How To Avoid The 3 Most Common Affiliate Mistakes

However, like all businesses, there are lots of pitfalls in the affiliate marketing business. Committing some of the most common mistakes will cost the marketers a large portion taken from the profit they are making everyday. That is why it is better to avoid them than be regretful in the end.

Mistake number 1: Choosing the wrong affiliate.

Many people want to earn from affiliate marketing as fast as possible. In their rush to be part of one, they tend to choose a bandwagon product. This is the kind of products that the program thinks is “hot”. They choose the product that is in demand without actually considering if the product appeals to them. This is not a very wise move obviously.

Instead of jumping on the bandwagon, try top choose a product in which you are truly interested in. For any endeavor to succeed, you should take some time to plan and figure out your actions.

Pick a product that appeals to you. Then do some research about that product to see if they are in demand. Promoting a product you are more passionate about is easier than promoting one for the sake of the earnings only.

Mistake number 2: Joining too many affiliate programs.

Since affiliate programs are very easy to join, you might be tempted to join multiples of affiliate programs to try and maximize the earnings you will be getting. Besides you may think that there is nothing wrong and nothing to lose by being part of many affiliate programs.

True, that is a great way to have multiple sources of income. However, joining multiple programs and attempting to promote them all at the same time will prevent you from concentrating on each one of them.

The result? The maximum potential of your affiliate program is not realized and the income generated will not exactly be as huge as you were thinking initially it would. The best way to get excellent result is by joining just one program that pays a 40% commission at least. Then give it your best effort by promoting your products enthusiastically. As soon as you see that it is already making a reasonable profit, then maybe you can now join another affiliate program.

The technique is to do it slowly but surely. There is really no need to rush into things, especially with affiliate marketing. With the way things are going, the future is looking real bright and it seems affiliate marketing will be staying for a long time too.

Mistake number 3: Not buying the product or using the service.

As an affiliate, you main purpose is to effectively and convincingly promote a product or service and to find customers. For you to achieve this purpose, you must be able to relay to the customers that certain product and service. It is therefore difficult for you to do this when you yourself have not tried these things out. Thus, you will fail to promote and recommend them convincingly. You will also fail to create a desire in your customers to avail any of what you are offering.

Try the product or service personally first before you sign up as an affiliate to see if it is really delivering what it promises. If you have done so, then you are one of the credible and living testaments aware of its advantages and disadvantages. Your customers will then feel the sincerity and truthfulness in you and this will trigger them to try them out for themselves.

Many affiliate marketers makes these mistakes and are paying dearly for their actions. To not fall into the same situation they have been in, try to do everything to avoid making the same mistakes.

Time is the key. Take the time to analyze your marketing strategy and check if youa re in the right track. If done properly, you will be able to maximize your affiliate marketing program and earn higher profits.

Facebook in India: Can Mark Zuckerberg's plan really help the poor?

In defending the company’s Free Basics Internet service offered in India, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has called Internet access a basic human right. But critics say the plan is less about lifting the needy out of poverty, and more about Facebook’s marketing goals.

“Who could possibly be against this?” wrote Mr. Zuckerberg Monday in an op-ed published in the Times of India about the service which would offer limited access to online services to feature-phone users, for free. Zuckerberg says the platform will be open to all software developers, and the version of Facebook offered will include no advertisements. Internet access like that offered by the company, he argues, could lift some Indians out of poverty.

Free Basics provides information on health, travel, jobs, and local government. By offering a limited number of apps and transmitting as little data as possible, costs are minimized.

Zuckerberg made his appeal after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India asked Facebook’s partner, Reliance Communications, to stop providing the service until its legality could be determined.

In his op-ed Zuckerberg likened the importance of Internet access to that of public libraries and public education. But many remain skeptical of the company’s stated goals.

“This clearly is not a plan you want if you are focusing on the poorest of the poor, but it works for a target of assisting perhaps middle and urban-middle class,” says Michael Kugelman, Michael Kugelman Senior Associate for South and Southeast Asia Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in an interview. “It is really putting the cart before the horse. Providing Internet access presumes a certain level of funds, a certain demographic. Who is the target here? It’s not really the poor is it?”

Mahesh Murthy, a prominent Indian venture capitalist, has decried the program as “imperialism and the East India Company all over again,” carried out under the lie of “digital equality.”

Mr. Kugelman disagrees. “I hesitate to side with calling it ‘imperialism’ simply because I feel that Zuckerberg is a well-intentioned guy and he wants to expand even more the level of Internet penetration in India,” he says.

Zuckerberg wrote, “More than 35 operators have launched Free Basics and 15 million people have come online. And half the people who use Free Basics to go online for the first time pay to access the full Internet within 30 days.”

“You’re not lifting the poor up to a level of paying for Internet access in 30 days. That suggests a much more advanced demographic financially,” says Kugelman. “If the aim is to help lift people out of poverty then it’s kind of pie in the sky because a lot of things have to happen before a the poor and even working poor there, anyone really below the urban-middle class, can afford a device or even the time to spend using it.”

In addition to the practicality are concerns that the program violates the core tenets of net neutrality: that all Internet content and users should be treated equally. Others claim the program too closely mirrors Facebook’s marketing goals.

Critics took to Twitter to express their fears and frustrations.

First Amendment lawyer Marvin Ammori who has been a prominent voice in the network neutrality debate in the US and abroad says in an interview that he is reserving judgment, “I can see both sides here and there are some very valid concerns.”

“Generally it’s good when a company’s goals and interests dovetail with the public interest,” Mr. Ammori says. “The fears that Facebook is going to get new consumers locked into Facebook, that’s a problem to some extent because social networks rely on the number of people they have. The more people they have the harder it would be for a new local social network to defeat Facebook or become prominent in, say, India or somewhere else.”

Ammori adds. “Also, zero-ratings, are part of the problem, determining which applications get an advantage in the market instead of leaving it up to the consumer,” Ammori explains. So-called zero-rating plans count only some Internet services toward data-usage limits, giving some websites or networks an unfair advantage.

“There have been several countries around the world who have already determined that zero rating violates net neutrality,” he explains. “I will say that [Facebook] … seems like they’re trying to be as consumer-friendly as possible in their zero ratings.”
