Infor Updates Email Marketing Product; Allows Social Media Integration

Infor, a business cloud company, today unveiled Infor Omni-Channel Campaign Management, a new suite of marketing solutions for data-driven email marketers.

The new solution is an updated and rebranded version of the former Infor Epiphany Outbound Marketing product, which stemmed from Infor’s acquisition of SSA Global Technologies in 2006.

Infor Omni-Channel Campaign Management helps marketers plan, execute and monitor marketing campaigns across multiple channels, including social media, SMS and email. It’s omnichannel and integrated approach allows marketers flexibility in how they reach out to customers, and through what channels.

The case for email and social media integration “is a strong one,” states Luke Brynley-Jones, CEO of Our Social Times and author of Constant Contact’s 2014 white paper, Integrating Social Media and Email Marketing. “Social media creates awareness, deepens relationships and builds trust while email converts prospects into buyers and increases customer retention.”

Yet, only 56% of marketers currently integrate social media with their email marketing programs, according to a recent study by ReachMail.

Less than 10% of email marketers plan to focus on social media integration in 2015, via Econsultancy.

Besides social-media integration, Infor’s new release contains several substantial product updates for traditional email marketers that include real-time analytics and segmentation capabilities. Version 10.1 includes new automated campaign workflows, one-click segmentation filters based on demographic and transactional data, and A/B testing and inbox previews.

Infor says its email marketing campaigns are permission-based and therefore compliant with anti-spam rules and regulations. It has also updated its campaign management solution with real-time statistics to track a marketing campaign’s success.

“Marketers are overwhelmed with data,” states Jason Rushforth, vice president, Infor Customer Experience. Infor helps marketers “streamline tasks to keep their campaigns as robust and direct as possible in the marketplace

The company suggests the updated analytics tool adds flexibility to a marketing campaign by allowing email marketers to monitor changing market dynamics and to quickly change strategy to maximize customer engagement with more personalized content.

What is your favourite blog or podcast and why?

This American Life and The New Yorker fiction podcast.”
—Sam Zimbler, Marketing Associate

“I am obsessed with the Invisibilia podcast from NPR. Read the description from their site and just try not to listen: “Invisibilia (Latin for all the invisible things) is about the invisible forces that control human behaviorideas, beliefs, assumptions and emotions. Co-hosted by Lulu Miller and Alix Spiegel, Invisibilia interweaves narrative storytelling with scientific research that will ultimately make you see your own life differently.”
—Erin Fegely, Assistant Marketing Manager

“I love Desert Island Discs on Radio 4, it’s perfect listening when cooking or doing the mind-numbing chore of ironing my work shirts. My life goal is to be on it, so Kirsty Young, if you’re reading this…”
—Barney Cox, Senior Marketing Executive

If you had to be trapped in an elevator for ten hours with any famous person living or dead, who would it be?

—Erin Fegely, Global Assistant Product Marketing Manager

“Agatha Christie! I love crime fiction (some may say I’m a little bit obsessed)especially the novels of the Golden Era of crime, with Christie being the Queen of Crime. I bet she would be able to while away the hours coming up with stories of murder and intrigue, and I’d love to ask her about her writing style, inspirations, and what she was doing in Yorkshire when she disappeared.”
—Hannah Charters, Associate Marketing Manager

“Firstly, ten hours, that’s a long time! I don’t think I’d want to be trapped in an elevator with anyone for ten hours, at least not without prior warning, so I could bring snacks. I’d pick somebody fascinating from history so they could tell me all about their life to pass the time. Let’s go with Cleopatra VII, the last Pharaoh of Egypt.”
—Barney Cox, Senior Marketing Executive

“Michael Pollan, so we could spend ten hours talking about food and then exit the elevator to gorge ourselves on local eats.”

Which fictional literary world would you most like to inhabit and why?

“Lyra’s world in Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogyI would love to know what animal my dæmon would be!”
—Hannah Charters, Associate Marketing Manager

“I’d live in Dorne in Game of Thrones, preferably in the Water Gardens, whilst steering clear of all the beheadings, poisonings, and massacres. The buildings are beautiful, everyone dresses stylishly, and I bet the food would be good too (although I’d pass on the grilled snake). Plus, winter is coming and I want to be somewhere warm.”
—Barney Cox, Senior Marketing Executive

“I would inhabit the fictional literary world of Alice in Wonderland because I think abstractly and have an avant-garde mind suited for that distorted realm.”
—Miki N. Onwudinjo, Junior Level Marketing Coordinator

3 Collaboration Tips for Innovative Product Marketers

product marketers need to collaborate

It’s great to be a product marketer. You’re at the center of your company: you have a direct lens into multiple teams, operations, and initiatives. You’re also your customers’ chief empathizer, and you have an arsenal of data to learn about their most pressing needs.

But at any given time, you’re probably walking a fine line between “lots of great detail” and “information overload.” The biggest challenge you’re likely facing is how to distill your wealth of knowledge into a cohesive set of resources for your team.

These three collaboration tips can help:

1. Rely On Content in Your Busiest Moments

If you find yourself having repetitive 1:1 conversations, consider creating content instead. Write a blog post, create a monthly newsletter, and find ways to limit the number of calls and meetings you’re having.

Recommended for YouWebcast: How to Create Content for Human Beings: A B2B Marketing Intervention

You should think of yourself as a journalist, reporter, and blogger—when you put information on paper, so to speak, more people can read, digest, and respond to what you’re saying.

Think of how many hours you’ve spent having the same types of conversations. Spend a fraction of that time writing, and you’ll not only be more productive, you’ll reach more people—both inside and outside of your organization.

2. Build Systems to Eliminate Unnecessary Time Sinks

It’s amazing how much time the “little things” take. You could spend hours writing personalized emails, scheduling appointments to interview emails to customers, and digging deep into your blog analytics.

Think through your big time sinks and set up processes to make things simpler. Example ideas include using email marketing software to manage internal newsletters, creating a Slack channel that auto-populates data from your Google Analytics account, and using Formstack to source questions that come up from your team.

You can start improving processes by focusing on two key areas in your operations: (1) things you don’t like doing, and (2) things that are eating up too much time. This “needs assessment” will help you pinpoint exactly what to fix and what solutions to implement.

3. Create an IM Channel for “Ideastorming”

As a product marketer, you’re probably already working with formal collaboration tools. Empower your team to leverage these tools for stream-of-consciousness idea generation—a process that’s invaluable for creativity. Encourage team members to share random ideas that you can later formalize into specific topics. 99% of B2B marketers say a steady stream of ideas is central to their success as marketers. Don’t pass up the opportunity to collect them from your team.

This new communication channel will be invaluable for idea generation and information sharing.

Remember that your ultimate goal is to optimize human relationships. Explore ways to get people excited about sharing ideas, and build upon your learnings to truly bring out the best in your teammates.

The more focused you are, the more you’ll grow.

Digital Marketing Predictions for 2015 from Facebook Product Marketing Director, Ads Matthew ...

2015CrystalBall650Facebook product marketing director, ads Matthew Idema shared his digital marketing predictions for 2015 with AllFacebook.

He wrote:

As the New Year approaches, it’s important to reflect on how the trends we’ve seen in the past year will impact marketers in the year ahead. For marketers, 2015 will be the year of more personalized customer interactions, a time to leverage more accurate measurement tools and the time to fully embrace the rapid mobile expansion around the world.

The year will move fast, and here’s what we expect to see in 2015:

Mobile devices will continue to gain more share of consumer’s attention. This shift has created a new space in people’s routines that is changing the way we experience media — more choice over what they see (e.g. more images, news and videos) plus how we shop, with many new ways to discover products. Advertising needs to be focused on reaching people in this new space and across several experiences, instead of focusing on one place or one experience.

Digital advertising will shift from being measurable to being truly accountable. Basic forms of measurement, such as click-based attribution models, only tell us a very small part of the story. With more scale, accuracy and new measurement tools, marketers will be able to understand what worked and focus on what matters to their businesses: brand metrics and sales.

Businesses that take a more personalized approach will win. Marketers have more information and tools to create relevant campaigns than ever before, and people increasingly expect the ads they see to be relevant across all channels. According to eMarketer, just 5 percent of client-side marketers worldwide said they were personalizing extensively.

Messaging will increasingly become a key part of how businesses interact with customers directly. Real-time dialogue is important in quickly addressing ongoing customer needs. As more people continue to gravitate toward message-based communication, businesses will shift by opening up this new channel of communication to maintain a constructive dialogue with employees and customers.

World population growth is being driven by high-growth countries, and it’s mobile. As our world population continues to grow over the next 10 years, most of that growth will occur in countries outside of the U.S. According to eMarketer, in the next three years, mobile phone penetration will rise from 61.1 percent to 69.4 percent of the global population. As more people become mobile-first, businesses and marketers will follow.

Every day we need to work together to help businesses stay connected with the right people and continue to grow. Our teams are excited about the connected year ahead.
