Waltham, MA-based research firm Applied Marketing Science (AMS) has promoted management consultant and market researcher John Mitchell to the post of President and Managing Principal. He replaces Bob Klein who is stepping down after 26 years.
AMS has two distinct specialisms: ‘Insights for Innovation’ geared towards new product and service development; and ‘Litigation Support’ for attorneys with consumer behavior and marketing issues, using surveys and other techniques.
Mitchell (pictured) has led the firm’s Insights for Innovation practice for the past five years, managing numerous domestic and international research projects, studying customer opinions in South America, Europe and Asia. Prior to joining he was Director in charge of the North America Customer Insights team at Vistaprint; Manager at strategy consulting firm Innosight; and a Customer Insights Expert at McKinsey & Company.
Klein will remain as Chairman of the Board, and will continue to serve as an expert witness in the company’s litigation practice. Commenting on the move, Klein said: ‘After 26 years as President, it is time to hand the reins over to a new generation of leaders. I look forward to working with John and our leadership team over the next few months to ensure a smooth transition. John is well-prepared to guide the evolution of AMS in ways that will allow us to address the changing needs of our clients’.
