With 4 billion views per day, clearly Facebook hasrecorded major success with video. It has shot up from January’s 1 billion. Now Facebook wants to publish original content – it has paired up with those publishers who are known to produce viral content, like Vox Media, Vice Media, Funny or Die, etc. The social networking company has joined forces with seven such media outlets including Electus Digital, Oh My Disney, The Onion and Tastemade to release customized videos. This is a step towards Facebook’s goal of a long time to make the site a place for original content.
This effort has been named Anthology and the media companies involved are going to be officially “Facebook Marketing Partners” as opposed to those brands that can advertise themselves on their individual brand pages. Facebook has revealed that these partners will be trained how to get the maximum business results out of the Facebook platform, apart from getting creative and production services. Thus the companies will get all the behind-the-scenes info and workings of Facebook.
All the involved companies will be turning in a certain amount of their profits to Facebook. The social media website is already the most powerful driver of content, advertisements etc. in the Web with the widest access across the world. Hence publishers and digital content companies are more than happy to partner up with this effort for the sheer exposure their brands are going to get through Facebook.
Right now there is no clear idea about the long-term goals of Anthology, but one thing is sure, if this effort is successful, more and more media companies will undoubtedly join forces with Facebook, making it into an even more formidable name in the market indeed. And of course, Facebook will be reaping huge benefits from the entire venture.
